Youth Webinar on Plastic Waste Management in Uganda
World Environment Day (5th June), 2025, celebrated under the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” presents an urgent call for collective action to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges—plastic waste. Uganda, like many developing nations, faces a growing plastic pollution crisis, with an estimated 600 tons of plastic waste generated daily in Kampala alone. Poor waste management, limited public awareness, and weak enforcement of plastic regulation laws have escalated environmental degradation, especially affecting urban centers, water bodies, and agricultural land.
Youth, who represent over 70% of Uganda’s population, are uniquely positioned to drive environmental change through innovation, advocacy, and action. This webinar aims to mobilize, educate, and empower young people to take leadership in tackling plastic waste in their communities.
Objective:
To engage Ugandan youth in a national dialogue on plastic pollution and equip them with knowledge, tools, and inspiration to take action in reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic waste.
Expected Outcomes:
- Increased youth awareness of plastic pollution and its impacts in Uganda.
- Commitment to local actions and campaigns on plastic waste reduction.
- Youth-led innovation and project ideas shared and incubated.
- Strengthened partnerships between youth and environmental stakeholders.
