What? Formed and Launched in May 2010 with support from Cities Alliance under theTransforming Settlements for the Urban Poor in Uganda (TSUPU) Project, the Uganda National Urban Forum’s Mission is “To provide a platform for dialogue and participation amongst all stakeholders to influence policy and legal reforms for sustainable urban development”. The UNUF seeks to provide a platform for dialogue at national level for all stakeholders in the urban sector with an aim of establishing a permanent forum for networking, sharing and disseminating information, promoting cooperation amongst various actors and promoting collective participation, advocacy for prioritization of urban sector issues and promoting integrated planning and management of urban growth a vision of sustainable urban development.

Where? The familiarization filed visits took place in the selected cities of Gulu, Hoima, Mbarara and Masaka. The selection of the above representative cities was based on their strategic regional and strategic potentials, opportunities and the role they play in driving economic growth within the country. For instance, Gulu was selected because of its regional and growth potential, exceptional good administration, governance and good practices exhibited in revenue mobilization and management, Mbarara was selected based on its growing and vibrant business/economic sector and the good practices in management of other urban sector issues. Hoima was selected based on its strategic regional location and Oil opportunities, on the other hand, Masaka was selected because of its regional potential exhibited in agriculture and urban development among others.

who? The activity was carried out by members of the UNUF Executive Committee, selected representatives from the City Development Forums of the respective selected cities, MDF members from selected Municipalities, selected technical officers and political leaders, the UNUF Secretariat from the Department of Urban Development/MLHUD and a member of the USMID-AF/PST. Please find attached annex 1 for participants.
