Recreational Cycling to Commemorate Wetlands 2023

 World Wetlands Day, celebrated annually on 2 February, aims to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and planet. This day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar.

As part of the National organizing committee (NOC), TEENS joined this year’s celebrations  were hosted in Soroti City at Gweri Sub-county under the theme (Wetlands Restoration”.

To commemorate this day there are several activities conducted to generate wide awareness about the need to restore wetlands leading to the day such as an online meeting and a recreational cycling.

In Soroti District/City, (on wetlands day-February 2) activities such as; the police procession, speeches/ statements, school performances (poetry, song and drama), and exhibitions for show casing best practices, tree planting, field visit to the restored wetland sites, and live broad cast Radio/TV, among others were also hosted in Soroti City.
